Dear Parents,

Secondary Campus Weekly Update 29 Sep 2025 - Secondary Campus Weekly Update 29 Sep 2025

This weekend marks an exciting milestone for our school as we host NAIS MUN V, Nord Anglia Hong Kong’s fifth Model United Nations conference. After six months of dedicated planning, we are thrilled to welcome 300 participants—an impressive increase from last year's 215. This year’s theme, "Turning the Tide," invites our students to engage deeply with pressing global issues, from historical conflicts like Northern Ireland to critical humanitarian crises such as female genital mutilation. Participants will also debate ongoing challenges, including the Russia-Ukraine conflict, representing different countries and honing their diplomatic skills.

We are proud of the rapid growth of our MUN Club, which has welcomed 15-20 new members, especially from Key Stage Three. This surge in interest highlights a growing enthusiasm for politics and current affairs among younger students, a significant shift from previous years. Through MUN, students develop valuable communication skills, confidence, and a broader understanding of world events.

Looking ahead, our MUN Club aims to expand its horizons by applying to five additional conferences, scheduled between November and March. These opportunities will further empower our students to practice public speaking, build networks, and strengthen their interaction skills.

We wish all our delegates the best of luck this weekend as they embark on this challenging and rewarding experience!

Box of Hope – Year 12/Kirsten Smit

Dear all,

The Box of Hope has returned to NAIS HK, and it’s once again the season to put gifts together for our local community! The Box of Hope is an organisation who works with schools and charities across Hong Kong to donate gifts to underprivileged children, while also educating students and adults alike about poverty and the significance of gift-giving. This year, the event will be led by Year 12 IB students at NAIS HK.

The Box of Hope also expresses our commitment towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), such as Goal 1 No Poverty, Goal 3 Good Health and Wellbeing, and Goal 5 Gender Equality, through the amazing gift boxes and wide delivery range. In addition, by taking part in this meaningful cause, we not only get to celebrate our local community but also unite in making a positive impact in improving the lives of young children.

Students can participate by firstly collecting an empty shoe box. Within the box, students can begin adding in their gifts in accordance with the Box of Hope checklist that will be provided in the form of a sticker (The checklist will also be attached below for those who would like to begin preparing!). After filling the box with gifts, students can decorate the box and then complete the Box of Hope sticker and stick it onto the top of the box. Students can then bring their box to school and drop it off at one of the collection areas around the campus. The final cut-off date for submissions will be 11th November. The time when the school will begin the collection and along with more information will be given shortly after school starts next half term in October.

We invite all students and parents to join in! Your participation will be greatly appreciated and will bring smiles to children across the world. Together, let’s spread smiles, hope, and kindness! Thank you everyone for your support.

I’m thrilled to be working with NAIS HK, which has allowed me to return to Hong Kong and continue my love for literature and learning. I completed my degree in English Studies in 2005 at the University of Gloucestershire and didn’t really know what to do after that. I knew that I wanted a job that had a social impact and I have been working with young people (11-18) for the past 20 years: initially, with young people leaving care. I came into teaching later in life after moving to Hong Kong to teach in an English Language Centre. I realised that I really enjoyed the process of imparting knowledge and helping to build confidence in others – I wanted to be the teacher that I needed when I was at school. I moved back to the UK to complete my PGDE and taught secondary English.

I am passionate about teaching and English literature and am very much looking forward to supporting this year’s cohort with their learning.

Hello everyone! This is my second year of teaching in Hong Kong, and it certainly has been a wet and windy start to the year. Despite the storms, I love living here and I am thrilled that I get to call it my home and to continue developing at NAIS HK.

Academically, I completed my PGCE at The University of Sheffield in 2023 for Secondary English, before this I qualified as an English language teacher by taking a CELTA course and gaining my Master’s in Teaching English to Speaker of Other Languages and Applied Linguistics. My background has a balance of literature, writing and language which has proved very useful adapting to the varying needs of my first and second language English pupils.

I love stories in all forms, so for me there is no greater pursuit than developing the skills of my pupils to appreciate the words of others and have the tools to articulate their own.

Sports Update – Miss. Wiltshire

U14 Boys Football ISSFHK League Match

A Tale of Two Boxes…

NAIS 2 ICHK 4

Despite a recent heavy defeat, a 13-boy squad showed their commitment and assembled for the big clash at the Kwun Tong astro. A flying start was not capitalised on, and a scrappy goal mouth scramble meant it was 1-0 ICHK at half time. No time to panic, the Knights responded well and almost straight from kick off Sihoon drove down the middle to equalize. Poor defending however handed ICHK the lead again before Sihoon repeated his trick to drive home another equaliser. Would the large squad be to the Knights advantage in the pre typhoon heat? Sadly not, with a dropped shot falling straight to the feet of the ICHK striker to retake the lead. Then further dallying on the ball giving them a 4th. Possession and chances created should have meant a win for the Knights but sloppy clearances in our own box with a lack of a clinical edge in theirs meant it was not meant to be. The hunt for 3 points continues!

U14 Girls Football v Kellett School

After the frustration of having to stay inside during Typhoon Ragasa, the U14 girls football team travelled to Kowloon Bay to face Kellett School in a game they knew could secure a finals spot if they had a positive result. A competitive first 10 mins saw both teams compete for every loose ball with neither team able to create any chances of meaning. Then our Knights started to take control and 3 quick goals from Amara, Kaia and Clarissa saw the team take control. The half time was 4-0 and reflected the improvement in their play. The second half started as the first ended, minus the goals owing to some fine stops by the opposition goalkeeper. The team continued to dominate play and another 2 goals secured a well-earned and deserved 6-0 victory. The team look forward to the finals after the half term holiday.
