Dear Parents,
I hope you all enjoyed a wonderful Lunar New Year with your loved ones. As we step into the Year of the Horse, our students have returned to school full of excitement and energy, ready to gallop into a fun and vibrant term ahead. We’re excited for Sports Day on Thursday, 5th March, which will take place at Hammer Hill. It promises to be a day filled with team spirit, laughter, and friendly competition.
In addition, we can’t wait to see our students shine on stage in their renditions of “Pick a Pocket or Two” and “Food, Glorious Food” from Oliver!. Performances will be held on Thursday, 5th March and Friday, 6th March in the school auditorium, which will be transformed into a Victorian London street for the occasion. We’re also looking forward to celebrating International Women’s Day, with a range of activities planned to honour the inspiring women in our community and around the world.
CNY Assembly Reflection – Carrie Quan
This year’s Chinese New Year celebrations successfully brought together classroom learning and whole-school community spirit. Across key stages, students engaged in creative and culturally rich activities, from KS3 button pictures and red packet designs themed around the Year of the Horse to dumpling-making with KS4 and KS5 students, which promoted collaboration and appreciation of festival food traditions. These experiences helped deepen students’ understanding of Chinese culture while allowing them to express themselves through art, design, and practical tasks.

The formal assembly further showcased students’ talents and confidence, with instrumental performances on guzheng, flute, piano, and violin, alongside singing, Chinese dances, and poetry recitations. The Lion Dance created a powerful sense of occasion and cultural authenticity, and the announcement of house points helped link the celebration to our wider school values of effort, teamwork, and achievement. Overall, the programme was very well received by students, staff, and families, and it strengthened our shared sense of community as we welcomed the Year of the Horse together. We wish everyone a very happy Year of the Horse ahead!

Sports Updates – Alex Wiltshire
U14 Boys Badminton
The U14 Boys Badminton squad enjoyed an exhilarating afternoon against the American School Hong Kong (ASHK), carrying their momentum from last week into another spirited performance. The boys supported one another brilliantly in warm-up, showing superb teamwork and focus.
In the singles, Jason Y, Jason T and Hugo each faced strong opposition, with one hard fought win and three nail biting games that had everyone on the edge of their seats. The doubles were even more intense, with all three matches going to deuce several times and one reaching a remarkable 30–29. Jason Y and Ronnie F secured a well deserved victory, while the remaining matches were decided by just a few points.
Although the final score was ASHK 4 – NAISHK 2, the result does not reflect the boys’ outstanding effort, skill and determination throughout the afternoon, of which they should be very proud.

U16 Boys A Badminton
On Tuesday, 10th February, the U16 Boys Badminton A Team delivered an impressive performance against CDNIS, securing a decisive 6 - 0 victory. From the outset, our players showcased their exceptional skills, with powerful smashes and precise serves. Their determination and teamwork were evident as they maintained focus during crucial moments, dominating each match with strategic plays.
Beyond their remarkable athleticism, the team's sportsmanship shone throughout the competition. Players encouraged one another and respected their opponents, fostering a positive atmosphere that epitomised the spirit of friendly competition. This victory not only reflects the talent and hard work of the U16 Boys Badminton A Team but also sets a high standard for the remainder of the season. Congratulations to the team on a fantastic win!
U16 Boys B Badminton
The U16 boys B team made the long journey to Discovery Bay on Thursday 12th February. Excitement was high for the first fixture of the season and the first time for some representing the school at badminton. Our hosts, Discovery Bay International School, were hosting their first ever badminton fixture and were keen to make an impressive start.
Three very competitive singles fixtures saw NAIS lead 2-1 with two matches needing to go to the deciding set in what were some very competitive games. The slender lead meant the doubles matches were going to be competitive with DBIS looking to overcome the disadvantage.
The final score of 4-2 to our boys' team meant a well-earned victory was achieved going into the CNY break.
A well done to all the players for their effort, skill and sportsmanship on a very successful afternoon.
Bronze AYP Assessment Expedition – Ms. Berry
The Bronze AYP Assessment held on 11th–12th February in Sai Kung Country Park was a resounding success. Students camped overnight at Ham Tin Beach and have made significant strides in meeting the Adventurous Journey requirements for campcraft. They can now pitch tents quickly and securely and equally; their stove work has improved significantly from their practice. From assembling and lighting stoves to cooking simple meals outdoors, everyone has shown competence in handling equipment responsibly and safely, reinforcing both practical outdoor living skills and teamwork.
The teams then tackled a demanding second day that featured multiple steep climbs along the Sheung Luk Wu Trail, reaching the highest point of 284m towards the end of the day. Despite the challenging terrain, every group completed the route and passed their assessment, demonstrating remarkable resilience and determination. It was a true team effort, with students supporting one another throughout, and the achievement was made possible thanks to the dedication of staff and the ongoing encouragement from parents.

Looking Ahead – Key Calendar Dates
