Dear Parents,
It has been another busy and joyful week of learning and celebration in school. We are pleased to share some highlights from the week, as well as a look ahead to what is coming next.
Last Wednesday, we marked World Earth Day by beginning an exciting new focus on Life Below Water, following our whole school vote to select a Sustainable Development Goal for the summer term. The children’s choice was clear, with Life Below Water receiving overwhelming support — a wonderful and meaningful focus, particularly given our beautiful coastal location here in Sai Kung.
Over the course of the term, our learning will explore how oceans support life and how we can care for marine environments. As part of this, our Wild Explorers will take part in a beach session, where children will:
These experiences will help children develop early environmental awareness while connecting learning to the world around them. Our Reception and Year 1 Classes will also take part in two Sea Scout Sessions, exploring sea safety and sea confidence.

Last Thursday, we also enjoyed a fantastic celebration for World Book Day, filled with creativity, storytelling, and a love of reading.
The children arrived dressed as favourite book characters, with an impressive range of costumes that reflected both imagination and careful thought. It was a joy to see how confidently they shared their characters throughout the day.
We began with a lively assembly, where the teaching team performed a dramatic and fun retelling of Supertato. This brought the story to life and captivated the children’s attention from start to finish.
Following the assembly, the children proudly took part in a World Book Day Parade, walking around the school to showcase their costumes and enjoy being part of a shared celebration.

Every class also visited the Book Swap Shop, where each child selected a book to take home — a simple but meaningful way to encourage continued enjoyment of reading beyond school and recycling books. The children also enjoyed a Story Door Hunt, exploring clues displayed on classroom doors and identifying which stories they represented. This playful activity encouraged discussion, problem solving, and collaboration.
We ended the day with a very special shared story time. Each child chose which teacher’s favourite story they wished to listen to, creating a calm and cosy finish to a memorable day celebrating books and storytelling.
Further details on each event will be shared closer to the time.
As always, thank you for your support in making these special events so memorable for the children. Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or would like to discuss your child’s learning.
Yours sincerely,
Ruth Hanson
