Evidence from the United Nations strongly supports this focus. UNESCO highlights that reading for enjoyment is one of the strongest predictors of academic success, positively influencing vocabulary, comprehension, and writing skills. The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) also emphasises that regular reading strengthens cognitive development, supports emotional wellbeing, and builds empathy by helping children understand diverse perspectives. Importantly, access to books and positive reading experiences in childhood is linked to long-term educational achievement and lifelong learning.
World Book Week reminded us that when children see reading celebrated at school and at home, they are more likely to grow into confident, motivated readers. Thank you to all families for supporting reading routines and sharing this enthusiasm with your children.

A huge thank you to our wonderful Reading Team, led by Ms. McGinty and supported by Ms. Harris, Ms. Man, Ms. Ellis-Rolfe, Ms. Pescod, Ms. Book and Ms. Bates. The team have dedicated their time, creativity, and commitment in making World Book Week such a success. The collective efforts helped make reading meaningful, exciting, and memorable for our children.
Last week, our Year 6 children came together for their first ever STEAM Dragon’s Den in which they pitched for investment in their Medical Marvels – inspired by our partnership with MIT. Our children from 6F wrote about their perspective of Dragon’s Den.
It was a great and memorable experience for all of us. This was amazing because it was really fun to take part and also exciting to get chosen. The aim of the project was to create assistive technology to help a person with a disability, and we wanted our idea to make everyday life easier. We went through many ideas together and talked a lot before deciding on the Grip Toggle, which was made by Austin, JJ, Charlotte, and Leo. Kristen also helped present for a Dragons-Den member who was absent, which was very kind and helpful.
Even though we didn’t win the grand prize, it still felt like a big achievement and an unforgettable experience. We learned that making something helpful takes a lot of collaboration, creativity, and effort, and we are proud of what we created together.
