Dear Parents,
As we move through another purposeful period of the school year, it has been a pleasure to see our students embracing such a wide range of academic, cultural and co-curricular opportunities. From national competitions and international events to sustainability initiatives led by our Student Leadership Council, this update reflects the energy, curiosity and resilience that characterise our NAIS HK community. I am particularly proud of the way our students continue to demonstrate perseverance, teamwork and integrity—whether competing, performing, or supporting causes that matter to them.
The coming weeks are equally full, with key events, assessments, and celebrations on the horizon. I hope you enjoy reading about the many achievements and upcoming opportunities, and I look forward to seeing many of you at school events over the coming weeks.
Earth Week (4th May to 8th May) - Gobby Kwong
This week NAIS HK is celebrating Earth Week, led by our Student Leadership Council (SLC) Environment Committee. This year’s theme focuses on reducing our carbon footprint, with a range of engaging activities designed to encourage sustainable habits across the school community.
Throughout the week, students are taking part in whole-school initiatives such as participating in a Carbon Footprint Challenge, where they can earn “Green Dollars” by completing environmentally friendly actions and donating items for our Swap Shop.
We warmly invite families to support this initiative by donating pre-loved items such as books, board games, clothes, and stationery for the Swap Shop. There are collection points on the LG/F, Canteen and 6/F. Each day will feature special events, including an Earth “Hour” during Form Time, a Leaf Scavenger Hunt, and an Upcycling Workshop where students will transform old T-shirts into tote bags. The week will end with our Swap Shop, where students use their Green Dollars to exchange or donations to purchase items, with proceeds supporting WWF.
We look forward to a meaningful week of learning and action as we continue to promote sustainability within our school community.
Denim Day (15th May) – Rosee Myers
The Student Leadership Council (SLC) EDIB Committee is organising a Denim Day on 15th May in recognition of Sexual Assault Awareness Month. This Dress Down Day aims to raise awareness and support the work of me too. International.
Students are invited to participate by wearing denim on the day, with a voluntary donation of $10. All proceeds will go towards supporting me too. International and their advocacy efforts.
Upcoming – KS3 Summer Showcase (29th May)
Our second annual KS3 Summer Showcase event will take place on Friday 29th May. This event gives our Year 7, 8 and 9 students the opportunity to share the knowledge and skills they have developed this year, while building confidence, communication skills and pride in their learning. Parents of KS3 students may find full details and timings for the Showcase in your email inbox alongside the sign-up link for the event (which can also be found here).
Upcoming - Teacher CPD Day (1st June)
On Monday 1st June, our staff will engage in a professional development training day. This means that students will not attend school on this day. Our teachers will be spending the day developing our curriculum and exploring how AI can support and enrich learning. These days are an important part of how we continue to grow and provide the best possible experience for our students.
Junior Maths Challenge Reflection – Andrew McIntosh

Our Year 7 and 8 students recently participated in the UKMT Junior Maths Challenge, with over 100 students taking part—our highest number yet! The UKMT Junior Maths Challenge is a national competition designed to challenge and inspire young mathematicians through a series of engaging problem-solving questions. It aims to develop students’ mathematical reasoning, problem-solving skills, and enjoyment of mathematics. We are eagerly looking forward to the results and celebrating the efforts and achievements of all our participants, as they showcase their mathematical talents and strive for success in this prestigious competition.
Chinese Battle of the Books – Carrie Quan
Last Wednesday, our students participated in the Chinese Battle of the Books competition held at Stamford American School Hong Kong. The event provided a valuable and enriching platform for intellectual engagement, and we are pleased to report that our team achieved an excellent result, securing third place.
Throughout the competition, our students demonstrated commendable diligence and a consistently positive attitude. Even after the second round, when four other schools were announced to have attained perfect scores, our students remained composed and resolute. They continued to support and motivate one another, maintaining focus and determination until the conclusion of the event.
While their achievement may appear fortunate, it was, in fact, the result of sustained effort, perseverance, and effective teamwork. Their ability to recover and perform strongly in the later stages of the competition ultimately led to this notable accomplishment.
Irrespective of the final ranking, the resilience and collaborative spirit displayed by our students are of the utmost significance. We look forward to providing more opportunities for students to participate in similar activities, where they can cultivate a love of reading while developing essential teamwork skills.

Match Reports
U14 Netball
U14 Netball squad played DC in their third match of the season, bringing plenty of high spirits after winning their previous two fixtures. From the start, it was a very close contest, with both teams putting pressure on the ball and working hard to gain possession.
By half-time, DC edged ahead 3–2, after creating momentum in mid-court through strong mid-passes and a number of intercepts. Their attacks also forced the play to become frantic at times, resulting in several stoppages and opportunities for them.
At the break, the coach’s talk lifted spirits, and the Knights returned with renewed energy and confidence. Although the match became a little scrappy in parts, the squad stayed calm, with Oscar producing outstanding shooting to help them pull off a lead 7–4.
As the 4th quarter began, the team-built momentum. Communication improved, play was slowed, and passes were much more accurate with fewer interceptions. Eden then capitalised repeatedly, scoring almost every basket attempted.
Final score: NAIS HK Knights 13–5 — a third win for the NAIS HK Knights!

U12 Boys Football
The NAIS HK Knights produced a stunning comeback to defeat Carmel School 9-3. The first half was extremely tight, with the Knights creating numerous chances but failing to convert. They eventually took the lead, yet critical defensive errors allowed Carmel to snatch two quick goals. The Knights responded well, pinning one back just before halftime to make it 2-2 at the break.
Strategic discussions during the interval proved transformative. The Knights emerged with renewed focus and slammed home two quick goals. From that point, they were never challenged. The goals continued to flow as NAIS HK dominated proceedings, eventually running out emphatic 9-3 winners.
Outstanding performances came from Wujoon, Andy, Jonas, Alex, and Josh, all of whom contributed significantly to this memorable victory.
