Our Performing Arts Education with The Juilliard School for AY 2020-21 At Nord Anglia Education we are passionate about all three performing arts and strongly believe they play a crucial role in enabling our students to develop into intelligent, confident and well-rounded global citizens.

Being a part of the Nord Anglia family brings a vast array of benefits, especially with regards to the many collaborations we have with world-leading institutions and organizations.

One of which is our collaboration with The Juilliard School.

Founded in 1905, The Juilliard School is a world leader in Performing Arts education. Juilliard’s mission is to provide the highest calibre of artistic education for gifted musicians, dancers, and actors from around the world.

We believe Juilliard’s world-class education in all three core Performing Arts, gives our students first-class learning experiences, and also provides high-level professional training and personal development opportunities for our teachers.

Through the Juilliard Creative Classroom resources students’ Performing Arts lessons are enhanced with a wide variety of activities focusing on core works from a range of genres and styles.

Over the coming weeks, we will be welcoming our Juilliard Curriculum Specialists through a sequence of virtual visits as we look to enhance our partnership and further integrate the Juilliard Approach into our Performing Arts lessons.

As part of each of these visits Performing Arts staff have the opportunity to work closely with curriculum specialists through professional development sessions, and will also have the chance to take part in demo lessons using the fantastic resources available via Juilliard Creative Classroom.

Our students continue to amaze us with their hard work and dedication to their virtual schooling and have been engaging with all Performing Arts subjects regularly. The Performing Arts department is not alone in having to adjust their approaches and we’ve been well supported by the creation of a range of virtual school-specific resources, as well as looking to adapt and tailor the current curriculum to suit virtual learning.

One such upcoming change is our preparations for NAIS Manila’s Seasons’ Greetings, which will be a virtual Christmas celebration involving all NAIS Manila students in preparing their Christmas message, showcasing their unique performance talents.

Students in Key Stage 3 now have the ‘Juilliard Learning Block’ making up the majority of their Friday morning lessons. This means that students in Year 7 to 9 are either in Dance, Drama or Music lessons at the same time. By adjusting our timetable, it allows opportunities for further collaborations within these subjects, allowing students to further recognise the interconnected nature of the Performing Arts as a whole.

The Performing Arts continue to be an integral part of the high-quality learning experience we constantly strive to provide for all our students. At its core, the Performing Arts are inclusive and immersive, allowing all students to access learning opportunities and to provide everyone with the chance to succeed. We have seen many changes and many pleasant surprises through students’ interactions with the Performing Arts throughout virtual school. Not only do students develop their own creative passions, but through these subjects they also learn valuable language and communication skills.

We look forward to continuing to explore the wide range of opportunities made available through our Juilliard collaboration, and to providing our students with further opportunities to develop their self-expression, exploration, and creativity.
