The children were absolutely thrilled to become detectives for the morning, working collaboratively to decipher each clue that would lead them closer to discovering the identity of our unexpected visitor. With clipboards in hand and curiosity piqued, they set off on an adventure around the school, following the carefully hidden trail. Their journey took them to various locations throughout the building – down corridors, through the sandpit, into the library, to different classrooms and even to some unexpected spots they don't usually visit during a typical school day!

At each location, they had to read the clues carefully, discuss possibilities with their partners and use their problem-solving skills to work out where to go next. The excitement and anticipation built with each new discovery, as the children demonstrated excellent teamwork, resilience and reading comprehension skills.

This immersive experience perfectly set the stage for our work on adventure narratives and prepositional language. The children were brimming with ideas and vocabulary from their own 'hunt' experience, which they drew upon as we explored the rhythm, repetition and descriptive language in Michael Rosen's classic text. This adventure inspired amazing creative writing from these young students.
