FINE ARTS SCHOLARSHIP

REQUIREMENTS

• Dance

  • SlideRoom media upload
    • One 2 minute solo - ballet, modern, jazz, or contemporary
  • Live audition/interview (by invitation) 
    • One 2 minute solo - ballet, modern, jazz, or contemporary (must provide own musical accompaniment on a mobile device)

    • Perform a ballet combination, progressions across the floor, and a jazz combination.

  Additional Audition Guidance: Our goal is to view your technical and performance skills during both the pre-screen and on-campus auditions.  As such, for both pre-screen and on-campus auditions, please select the solo style that presents you in the best light.  Dancers will need to bring all dance shoes to the audition. Female dancers wear black leotards, with black leggings, hair in a bun.  Male dancers wear black jazz pants, white t-shirt.

• Instrumental Music

  • SlideRoom media upload 

    • Instrumentalists must submit two or three contrasting works* from the standard repertoire of their instrument. Composition applicants must include two or three original compositions.

      *Note for  Classical Percussionists: Please submit solo of choice on mallets AND Solo of choice on the snare drum.

  • Live audition (by invitation) 
    • Solos of choice same as above
    • Sight read
    • All major and minor scales in two or three octaves

  Additional Audition Guidance: Our goal is to view your technical and performance skills during both the round 1 video auditions and on-campus auditions. As such, for both video auditions and on-campus auditions, please select solo music that demonstrates the full extent of your abilities, so that you may present yourself in the best light. Accompaniment is preferred, but not required. Accompaniment may be live or digital.

• Vocal Music

    • Vocalists must sing two contrasting works, performed from memory, with live or pre-recorded accompaniment.
  • Live audition (by invitation) 
    • Solos same as above
    • Sight sing
    • Echo sing

As such, for both video auditions and on-campus auditions, please select solo music that demonstrates the full extent of your abilities, so that you may present yourself in the best light. Accompaniment (live or prerecorded) is required for both round 1 and on-campus auditions.

• Theatre

    • Musical Theatre Focus
      • One monologue and one song from a published musical (internet monologues and original works will not be accepted).
    • Acting Focus
      • Two contrasting monologues from a published play.
  • Live audition (by invitation) 
    • Musical Theatre Focus
      • One monologue, one song from a published musical (must provide own musical accompaniment on a mobile device), dance combination, and sight-singing.
    • Acting Focus
      • Two contrasting monologues. 

  Additional Audition Guidance: Monologues and songs should be selected from standard, published repertoire-original works are not accepted.  Please have a thorough understanding of the larger piece and the characters you are portraying, making sure you select pieces that are appropriate for your age and life experience. Avoid pieces that involve dialects and character voices. Our goal is to see you at your best, so select material that will present you in your best light.

• Film, Photography, or Visual Art

  Film

  Submit any two of the following: 

  • Writing portfolio: Original writing that best represents you as a writer, in short story or screenplay format (maximum 500 words). 

  • Short film or video: Work in any style, including live action, experimental, or documentary. You may submit a portfolio reel containing multiple films (maximum 5 minutes total). 

  • Storyboard: 10–15 still images or drawings you created, arranged to tell a story and combined into one PDF. 

   

  By invitation: Individually scheduled interview & a 45–90 minute skills assessment. 

   

  Photography

  Submit a portfolio containing 15–20 original photographs. Your portfolio should demonstrate your skills, personality, and creativity.  with one image per page or slide.  

   

  Accepted file types are .pdf. A PDF may contain up to 20 still pages or slides, with no embedded links or videos. One image per page or slide. Each page or slide must include a caption explaining your vision for that image, the camera settings, and your editing process.  

   

  By invitation: Individually scheduled interview & a 45–90 minute skills assessment. 

   

  Visual Art

  Submit a portfolio containing15–20 images, or 3-5 moving images (maximum 5 minutes total). Your portfolio should demonstrate your skills, personality, and creativity. It may include brainstorming, initial sketches, and finished work in design, drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture, digital art, mixed media, or animation. 

   

  Accepted file types are .pdf, .jpeg, .mov, and .gif. A PDF may contain up to 20 still pages or slides, with no embedded links or videos. A page or slide may include multiple images only when they are closeups/details, or alternate views if presenting 3D works, and text, such as a title, date, dimensions, materials, or brief description. The selection committee will review a maximum of 20 items.

  Additional Guidance 

  Choose work that shows both what you can make and how you think creatively. Where the format allows, include brief context that helps the selection committee understand your ideas, choices, and process. Follow the submission limits for your chosen pathway and review your files before uploading to make sure the work and any required captions are clear and accessible.
