Through work in their homerooms, 2nd grade students designed superheroes to fight problems like pollution, housing, and clean energy. During their STEAM class, students then worked in teams of three to combine the best parts of their superheroes to create a new superhero, capable of tackling a Global Goal and making a difference in the world.
Each team drew a superhero and a background, and they also wrote a detailed shot list. With these items complete, students met with high school students from Angel Alvarez’s Digital Art class and shared their visions. In the following weeks, the older students worked diligently to animate the superheros and bring their 2-D plans to life.
When the animations were completed and compiled, 2nd grade gathered all-together in the STEAM lab to watch the animations. The videos exceeded expectations and this collaboration highlighted the imagination of our 2nd grade students and the technical expertise of high school students. You can see the final animations here.
