Head of Swimming

  • Period: Full-time
  • Contract: 2-Year
  • Closing date for applications: 31 March 2015

Swimming is a popular and well-established sport at St. Andrews and we are looking for an experienced and inspiring teacher to lead the Swim Programme. The post will involve teaching swimming from EYFS to KS3, as well as coaching swimmers of all levels.

Students at St. Andrews have a swimming lesson every week throughout the year. Across the school, class sizes are small and the students are motivated and enthusiastic, enjoying a lively approach to the subject through a wide range of teaching and learning techniques. The ideal candidate will convey enthusiasm for the subject and contribute collaboratively in the continued development of both the curriculum and extra-curricular sport.

We are at an exciting stage in our development with a coaching programme that has expanded rapidly over the past few years and which now has several highly-regarded swim coaches to deliver it. The Head of Swimming is responsible for leading this team, managing all aspects of the programme and for its strategic development over time.

There are widespread extra-curricular opportunities for students from KS1 upwards and we have developed a busy schedule of training which takes place after school and sometimes at weekends. All staff are actively involved in this.

Our school prides itself on being an inclusive school, and has an excellent reputation for supporting children with special educational needs. Experience of teaching children with dyslexia, mild autism, ADHD etc. would be very good prior experience for a teacher wishing to join our team. Our Mission Statement commits us to meeting ‘all the needs of the individual learner’, and this applies equally to those students targeting the very highest grades at IGCSE and IB. Our work on Assessment for Learning, Growth Mindsets and, more recently, High Performance Learning is a very important part of this.

We are committed to developing a Virtual Learning Environment using Moodle. There is a strong commitment to integrating the teaching and use of ICT skills into all areas of the curriculum, where appropriate. The P.E. Department has access to data projectors and to the internet, with a laptop cart, iPads and ICT labs bookable when required.

As well as their teaching, all teachers are expected to contribute positively to both the school’s pastoral systems and the extra-curricular programme.

The closing date for application is 29th May 2015.
