Computer Science is a popular subject at both IGCSE and IB, and we are looking for an experienced and inspiring teacher to join the team. Class sizes are small and the students are motivated and enthusiastic, enjoying a lively approach to the subject through a wide range of teaching and learning techniques. The ideal candidate will convey enthusiasm for the subject and contribute collaboratively in the continued development of the curriculum from Year 7 to Year 13. August 2017 will be a very exciting time to join St Andrews, as we open our new 11-18 Campus with a number of purpose built Design Technology and Computing rooms, located, along with the Art rooms and Science labs, in a beautiful building with a glass-roofed atrium.
All students currently study ICT/Computing as part of a carousel in Key Stage 3, with groups of students having two 70-minute lessons per week for five weeks before spending five weeks in Design Technology. This allows much greater continuity for both students and teachers, as well as collaborative curriculum development. The current ICT/Computing curriculum is based on the English National Curriculum, and reflects both the current shift from ICT to Computer Science as well as our location in South East Asia and the international nature of our students. From next year, Computing will be taught in Key Stage 3 as part of a new integrated Technology course, with students having two lessons each week and covering topics and skills from Design Technology, ICT and Computing Science. Computer Science is also a growing subject at both IGCSE and as part of the IB Diploma Programme, and previous experience teaching one or both of these courses would be a significant advantage.
At St Andrews, we pride ourselves on being an inclusive school, and have an excellent reputation for supporting children with special educational needs. Experience of teaching children with dyslexia, mild autism, ADHD etc. would be very good prior experience for a teacher wishing to join our team. Our Mission Statement commits us to meeting ‘all the needs of the individual learner’, and this applies equally to those students targeting the very highest grades at IGCSE and IB.
All Design Technology and ICT/Computing classrooms have data projectors, interactive whiteboards and access to the internet, and there is a strong commitment to integrating the teaching and use of ICT skills into these, and other areas of the curriculum, where appropriate, with laptop carts, iPads and ICT labs bookable when required. As well as their teaching, all teachers are also expected to contribute positively to both the school’s pastoral systems and the extra-curricular programme, offering an Extra-Curricular Activity that either supports or extends the students’ learning in their subject area, or from another area of personal interest.
If you would like to apply for a position at our school please complete the application process through Jobtrain, accessible via the Nord Anglia Education website. If you require any further information, please email email@example.com. The closing date for applications is Friday 2nd December 2016.
