Juilliard Artist Visit - Kimball Gallagher
On Friday we welcomed a wonderful pianist to school for a day of celebrating the piano. Kimball Gallagher introduced the children to Mussorgsky's piece “Pictures At An Exhibition” through visually identifying the character of the music and they also got the chance to vote on which piece he performed for them. Children volunteered in an improvisational game and some also had the experience of having their names made into music for them, on the spot!
Several of our experienced piano players had a masterclass experience with Kimball, where they explored the pieces they are currently working on and were given suggestions of how to develop these further in performance.
The day ended with a wonderful concert featuring St. Andrews students and a full rendition of “Pictures at an Exhibition” performed by Kimball Gallagher.
What a wonderful way to end the week and what an honour to have such a fabulous musician working with us all day.
Next week we are looking forward to welcoming back our Juilliard Music Curriculum Specialist, Kathryn Andersen for 3 days of teaching, learning and exploring the Juilliard Core Works. So many wonderful musical experiences.
TISAC High School Choral Day
On Tuesday of last week, a group of students from the St. Andrews High School choirs travelled to Bromsgrove International School for the annual TISAC High School Choral Day. The students enjoyed a day filled with new music, experiencing new conductors, singing in a choir of more than 120 students and performing with 7 schools in the concert.
Well done to all the students who took part.
