Art is a popular and well-established subject at St. Andrews and we are looking for an experienced and inspiring teacher to join the team. Class sizes are small and the students are motivated and enthusiastic, enjoying a lively approach to the subject through a wide range of teaching and learning techniques. Art is taught in large, well-lit new classrooms, which will be further developed before the beginning of next academic year to allow senior students to work in a studio environment. The ideal candidate will convey enthusiasm for the subject and contribute collaboratively in the continued development of the curriculum from Year 7 to Year 13.
All students study Art throughout Key Stage 3, with students having one 65-minute lesson per week. The Art curriculum is based on the English National Curriculum, but adapted to reflect both our location in South East Asia and the international nature of our students. Art is also a popular subject at both IGCSE, where we have also recently introduced Photography, and IB, and previous experience teaching one or more of these courses would be a significant advantage.
We pride ourselves on being an inclusive school, and have an excellent reputation for supporting children with special educational needs. Experience of teaching children with dyslexia, mild autism, ADHD etc. would be very good prior experience for a teacher wishing to join our team. Our Mission Statement commits us to meeting ‘all the needs of the individual learner’, and this applies equally to those students targeting the very highest grades at IGCSE and IB.
All classrooms have data projectors and access to the internet, and there is a strong commitment to integrating the teaching and use of ICT skills into all areas of the curriculum, where appropriate, with laptop carts, iPads and ICT labs bookable when required.
As well as their teaching, all teachers are expected to contribute positively to both the school’s pastoral systems and the extra-curricular programme, offering an Extra-Curricular Activity that either supports or extends the students’ learning in their subject area, or from another area of personal interest.
