Mathematics is a popular and well-established subject at St. Andrews and we are looking for an experienced and inspiring teacher to join the team to cover a Maternity Leave. Class sizes are small and the students are motivated and enthusiastic, enjoying a lively approach to the subject through a wide range of teaching and learning techniques. The ideal candidate will convey enthusiasm for the subject and contribute collaboratively in the continued development of the curriculum from Year 7 to Year 13. A two-year contract, beginning in August 2019, may also be available to an appropriately qualified candidate.
All students study Mathematics throughout the High School, with Key Stage 3 schemes of work based on the National Curriculum but adapted to encourage creative approaches to real life applications and taught in mixed-ability groups. At Key Stage 4, Years 10 and 11 students study IGCSE Mathematics, with a group of students each year taking the IGCSE exam at the end of Year 10 and then following a Further Maths course in Year 11. All students then continue to study Mathematics as part of their International Baccalaureate Diploma. The Mathematics Faculty offers both Higher Mathematics and the two Standard Level courses, Mathematics Standard and Mathematics Studies. Experience of teaching the IB Mathematics courses, and their philosophy, especially at Higher Level, and/or of teaching Further Maths A-Level would be advantageous.

All Maths classrooms have data projectors, interactive whiteboards and access to the internet, and there is a strong commitment to integrating the teaching and use of ICT skills into all areas of the curriculum, where appropriate, with laptop carts, iPads and ICT labs bookable when required. As well as their teaching, all teachers are also expected to contribute positively to both the school’s pastoral systems and the extra-curricular programme, offering an Extra-Curricular Activity that either supports or extends the students’ learning in their subject area, or from another area of personal interest.
