Primary School Sport: Building on success for 2018-2019

As we prepare for the upcoming St Andrews International School Bangkok 2017-2018 Sports Awards, we plan for next year’s events and trials to kick off Term 1.

FOBISIA Primary Games 2018

Relive some of the highlights from the 4-8 June FOBISIA Primary Games 2018 in Phuket.

What an amazing week of sport! The children trained hard for 6 months and the results were spectacular, finishing the most successful school out of the 7 schools involved. The determination, resilience and love of sport shown by our STA children was infectious and inspiring.

BISP Soccer 7s and NAE Games 2018

We have some major sports competitions coming up in the first term of the new academic year.  The first one is our annual trip to Phuket for the BISP Soccer 7s, which will take place from 22 - 25 November 2018.  We will be taking 3 Primary teams: U9 Boys and U11 Girls/Boys. Boys’ football training will remain on Mondays and girls’ on Tuesdays.  Each squad will have 10 children.

A week later, from 29 November  - 2 December, we will participate in the third NAE Games which we be held in Cambodia.  The NAE Games is a 2-day sport tournament (1 day basketball/1 day teeball). There will be a basketball trial and a teeball trial (please see trial dates below).  Twelve girls and 12 boys will be selected and training will take place on Wednesdays (Field) and Fridays (Arsenal, Pridi Soi 21).

Year 1 & 2 Aquathon

Last week we started our very first Key Stage 1 Aquathon.  The children had a great time and loved the event. It is great to to give the children an opportunity to take part in these events and to promote a healthy lifestyle through exercise. This week the other classes get to experience their first taste of a mini endurance event.  All the Aquathons take place during normal PE time.

  • For Year 1, children run 300m and swim 25m.

  • For Year 2, children run 500m and swim 50m.

Dates for this week’s aquathons are as follows:

  • 19 June:  2M, 2H and 2R

  • 21 June: 1L and 1M

Children will need to bring:

  1. Swimming suit

  2. Goggles

  3. Swim cap

  4. PE kit

Teacher Achievement

One of our very own swim teachers, Khun Nok, has been asked to represent Thailand at the 1st Asian Masters Swimming Championships in Japan from 12 - 16 July. Khun Nok will be swimming in the 100m. backstroke, 100m. breaststroke and relays.

You will probably see her training in the pool every morning in preparation. Being invited to represent your country is a fantastic achievement and we wish her all the best for the Championships.
