High School International Day - Friday 11th

It is now only a few days until our High School International Day, taking place this Friday, when we celebrate our international and multicultural community and our October Monthly Theme: “We are world citizens and members of the global community”.

With students of 49 different nationalities, and many more cultures, in the High School, it is always one of the highlights of the year to spend time focused on the variety of nationalities and cultures that make up our Great St Andrews Community and remind ourselves that we are all world citizens, as well as citizens of our own countries. Events like the recent Global Action Week are also an example of how our Great St Andrews Community is part of the global community.

Like last year, each Year Group will spend the day on a variety of different activities focused on a different continent, with this year’s list of Year Groups and continents as follows:

Year 7: Oceania

Year 8: South America

Year 9: Asia

Year 10: Antarctica & Europe

Year 11: North America

Senior Studies: Africa

The International Buffet, generously provided by our parents, is always one of the highlights of the day, and this year we have a new record of 28 different countries with tables:

I look forward to seeing many parents on the day, and hope that you can also join us for one of our two assemblies, taking place from 8:15 – 8:50 (Key Stage 3) and 1:55 – 2:30 (Key Stages 4 and 5).

If any parents who are not a Country Representative would also like to sample the amazing International Buffet, please wait until 1pm, when all the students have been served.

You can see the full schedule for the day for each Year Group below. Please remember that you can park free at Gateway for two hours, or four with a St Andrews Parking Coupon that you can collect from our Security Desk or School Office.

Air Quality Update

After last Monday’s very high AQIs, the levels began to fall to more usual levels for this time of the year later in the week. As well as all of our AirVisual air monitoring devices, we also now have over 100 Mi Air Purifier Pros (pictured below - see https://www.mi.com/global/air for more details) in classrooms around the High School, ensuring that the students and teachers are breathing clean air whatever the AQI is outside.

As you can see, this morning the AQI in a Classroom on the third floor of the Gold Building was 8, and at the same time the AQI in the Library, where we have a bigger air purifier, was 21.

I look forward to seeing many of you at International Day on Friday.
