High School: Christmas is coming...

The Christmas decorations are starting to appear in the High School, and we are into the last four weeks of term.

Christmas is coming

181119 hs 2 181119 hs 3

Over the weekend we have started putting up our Christmas decorations around the High School. This is a little earlier than the usual beginning of December, but we wanted to have time to enjoy them as we race through the last four weeks of Term 1. You can see how busy the next four weeks will be from the Calendar below.

Parent/Student/Teacher Meetings

At the approach the end of Term 1, Years 7-10 have their first Parent/Student/Teacher Meetings this year, beginning with Year 10 on Thursday this week. Parents of students in Years 7, 8 and 9 will receive more information from the relevant Heads of Year soon.

It was great to see so many Year 9 parents at last week’s Options Information Evening, and I am especially looking forward both to discussing Options further with Year 9 and their parents next week and to Year 7’s first High School Parent/Student/Teacher Meetings the following week.

Health and Safety/Air Quality Updates

181119 hs 4 181119 hs 5

If you visited the High School last week, you may have noticed the two new signs shown above.

The first sign is intended to ensure that we always know which students are in school. By asking those students who have forgotten, or lost, their ID Cards to wait a few minutes at the end of school, until the queues have died down, we can ensure that each of these students taps out at the screen before leaving school. As it says on the sign, any student who has lost their ID Card should see Reception in the High School Office to request a new one.

The second sign is part of our continuing efforts to always ensure the best possible quality in classrooms and shared areas around the school, even as temperatures decrease and AQIs increase. The Mi Air Purifier Pros that we now have in High School classrooms are a very big part of this, and these signs will get students and teachers helping our Estates Department to keep the doors into Shared Areas closed when we are concerned about AQI readings outside.

CIS Evaluation of Yew Chung International School of Beijing

As I wrote last week, I am currently in Beijing, visiting the Yew Chung International School of Beijing as Co-Chair of the CIS Evaluation Team.

As you can see from the photo above, it was a beautiful morning in Beijing, with an AQI of only 37. What you cannot see from the photo is that the temperature this morning was -1° C...
