St Andrews Dancers rock Friday Night Game

Primary School Sport: Dancers rock Friday Night Game

Our young footballers and tennis players blossom again, plus our dance squad wowed at the High School Friday Night Game. Our younger children completed their triathlons and it is time to reflect and appreciate the brilliance of our STA children...

Some of our Year 1 and 2 children completed their Triathlons this past week and our two U9 Girls football teams played in their first TISAC festival. It was great news that all our Year 1 and 2 children are going to be able to compete in their triathlons before the half-term break. Please see below for more pictures from the event.

We have been saving up all the brilliant experiences and events over Term 1 and now parents can see the boards with new pictures of the sporting trips, swim meets, competitions and tournaments that have taken place. We love to celebrate how truly brilliant our children are and this is one way of being able to reflect and show all the things we have done.

Our Primary Dance Squad was invited to the High School Friday Night basketball and wowed the crowd with their impressive performance before tip off. Great work again girls and Miss Cherry.

Also, last week 2 of our Primary PE teachers showed off their talents before the Busking Week assembly. I am sure the children enjoyed their performances and were inspired by the skills on show!

Plus, our very own Mr Pat, who now teaches at High School, achieved the incredible by being selected for the Thailand National Rugby 7’s team. He will fly to Borneo next month to play in his first game. Mr Pat has been responsible for developing rugby at High School into one of the most popular sports. This is great news for Year 6s who love their rugby or children that are thinking about playing next year at High School, as now they will be lucky to be coached by a National Rugby 7s player.

KS1 Triathlon

After the disappointment of having to cancel last week's events, thankfully the children were able to start their triathlon experience this week. Well done to all the Year 1 and 2 children who worked hard across the swim, bike and run to complete, for some, their first ever triathlon. These events will have such a positive influence on our STA children and will help them to understand how brilliant and rewarding exercise and sport can be. Next week we have the classes who missed their event last week on Wednesday (Year 2) and Friday (Year 1). A big thank you to K.Seung for organising the event and also the support given by the swim team.

Football

This week our U9 Girls Flames and Blaze teams had their first TISAC Tournament hosted by STA at Soccer Pro. For TISAC there are two festivals in which all points from both festivals are added up to see who are the TISAC League Champions. It’s the first time we’ve had two U9 girls teams and I feel very proud to have such a brilliant group of children enjoying sport and representing St Andrews International School Bangkok.

Our Flames team continues their impressive year with 3 wins scoring 18 goals and only conceding 1 goal. Their progress is clear to see with more passing and working as a team. They are now favourite to be crowned TISAC League Champions going into the 2nd festival, after half term.

Our Blaze team, which will be our Flames next year, had a mixed afternoon but showed brilliant resilience in their final game being 2-0 down in the first half to come out in the second half and win the game 3-2.

Tennis

Well done to all U9 Mini Tennis players who participated in the Red ball Tennis fixture Vs Bangkok Patana school. The fixture was a fun and social format for all players to enjoy tennis and build on the skills they are learning in class.

We are now looking forward to our first internal tennis event “STA World Tennis Day” which will be held in March 2019. Please stay in touch for more information.

Swimming

We hope all our Primary Marlins Squad swimmers have had a chance to sign up for our Marlin Mayhem swim competition happening on Saturday 2 and Sunday 3 March 2019.

Meanwhile, this past Saturday our swimmers were having a blast competing at the ANS Sprint Challenge. Two of our 6 & under boys even came away with 1st and 2nd individual high point award for their age group. What a fantastic job!

Sporting Conferences

We appreciate that you are often hearing different acronyms - TISAC, BISAC, FOBISIA - that we are involved in but may not know much about them. We hope that the following overview will therefore be useful.

We are currently members of four conferences or organisations:

TISAC: Thailand International Schools Activities Conference

We have been members for many years. This has 16 schools involved which vary in size from small to very large. Currently, we mostly enter Blaze teams in TISAC. There are leagues and tournaments in several sports from U9-U19 and next year, TISAC will also start its own multi-sport Games for Primary children.

BISAC: Bangkok International Schools Athletic Conference

This is our first year in BISAC. The 12-school membership includes the largest international schools in Bangkok in leagues and tournaments across many sports, from U9-U19, split into four seasons through the year. BISAC schools also run invitational tournaments.

FOBISIA: Federation of British International Schools in Asia

This has three major multi-sport Games per year (Primary, U13 and U15) that take place in Phuket against other schools across Asia. There are also single-sport events in Tennis, Golf, Swimming and more, which take place across Asia and provide some amazing travel opportunities.

NAE: Nord Anglia Education

We are part of the South East Asia division and meet for a U11 multi-sport Games once a year. Our schools take it in turn to host the NAE Games.

In addition, we are part of the wider circuit regionally which means we are invited to a whole range of other events across Thailand.

Currently we are able to offer STA students opportunities through these conferences in Football, Basketball, Swimming, Tennis, Badminton, Golf, Teeball, Track and Field, Triathlon, Cross Country.

If you have any questions about these conferences, please don’t hesitate to contact Mr. Damon (damon.se@standrews.ac.th).
