Our ‘All’ STARs designed amazing T-shirts for our Competition

Tonmai, Chi Chi and Mattie, who are part of our STARs Programme, wanted to take part in our T-shirt design competition and, with the help of Miss Emma, created this outstanding design based on the book “The Very Hungry Caterpillar”. We think they deserve an extra BIG “Well done” don’t you? So WELL DONE boys and thank you. We look forward to seeing your t-shirts being worn during Book Week.

Miss Yoshi Workshops & Readathon for The Bookworm Foundation

We were very lucky to have Miss Yoshi and some of her friends visit us last week and all the classes came to listen to her presentation about Braille and being blind. They also took part in a workshop which they all enjoyed. The children have been given sponsor forms by their teachers and are now taking part in a Readathon, which coincides with our Book Week, in order to raise funds for Miss Yoshi’s Foundation. The children are being encouraged to read as many books as possible so that they will raise as much  money as possible for the charity and the great work that it does. The money will be going to The Bookworm Foundation and you can read more about it here.

It’s Book Week

This long-awaited event is an annual celebration of books and authors and it is our aim to inspire an enhanced love of reading through sharing books and activities which will connect our readers with new and classic stories which enhance their joy of reading.

We also have a visiting illustrator/author from the UK, Karin Littlewood, who will be here all week working with the children and sharing her wonderfully visual books including ‘Immi’ and copies of this and several other of her books will be available to purchase in the Library during the week. You can see some of the books below which will be limited stock and available to buy on a first come first served basis.

We have lots of activities going on in the Library all week as well as our popular New and Used Book Sale. This week we have Paragon Asia and Book Link who will be setting up their stalls outside the Library and the Drama Studio. We have asked them to bring along a good selection of fiction and non-fiction books for all our ages and reading levels so we hope your children will find something new and exciting to buy. As you know we will receive a commission on all sales made across the week and your generosity and support is very much appreciated and supports our efforts to continually update and increase our Library collection for the benefit of the children. So, thank you in advance and we hope you have a wonderful Book Week 2019.

The week of course culminates on Friday with the legendary Character Parade at 8.00 a.m. which promises to be a truly colourful and fun event so we can all look forward to that.

Books of the Week

We have quite a diverse range of books for our readers this week from a tale of Winnie (a witch) and Wilbur and their adventures with a dinosaur to an informative pictorial guide to some of the key events in World War II. A collection of animal stories and an intriguing tale about a robot complete our selection for this week which are all available on the counter in the Library. Enjoy your reading.
