Primary School Sport: Crowning moments from Term 2

Our Primary footballers show their class! Plus our young gymnasts and tennis players were in action...

term 2 sports

We are nearly at the end of a busy Term 2.  It has been another successful term with a great number of different children participating in a multitude of different sports including tennis, gymnastics, swimming, football, golf and badminton.  We have also had a great deal of success at the FOBISIA golf and tennis, BISAC swimming winning the Girls 9 year olds category, BISAC athletics where the Girls’ team came 2nd and the Boys’ team came 3rd. The U9 Girls won their TISAC football league and cup, and there have been a number other successful meets, tournaments and competitions.

Now it’s time to look forward to a break and then the sporting events happening in Term 3. Below is a list of some of the events.

Some of the Events coming in Term 3

Our U9 teams were in action last week in their end of season TISAC tournaments.  In the girls’ tournament 24 girls represented STA across 3 teams. The Flames team won all their games and were crowned Champions making it the double winning both the League and Cup.  The Blaze team only lost 1 game out of 5, against the Flames, and finished 3rd. The Sparks, who were a mix of girls playing for the first time and Year 2/3 finished 7th out of the 10 teams which was a great effort. It is a great achievement to have so many girls playing and enjoying football.

In the U9 boys our young team made up of five Year 2 players got to the final and were unlucky not to become the youngest team at STA to win a Championship.  The organiser emailed me to tell me how impressed he was with how brilliantly they tried to play football in the STA way. Well done boys!

Also, last week our U11 boys played in their TISAC league and finished unbeaten over their 6 games and were named Champions.

On Saturday it was the turn of our U11 Girls and Boys at their TISAC tournaments. Not everything went to plan with the boys losing in the final and our girls finishing third.  The football season is now over but training still continues for some tournaments in May and also FOBISIA.

Congratulations to U14 squad for winning 3rd place.

Over the last few weeks our STA girls have shown how incredible they are. Whether it’s gymnastics, swimming, football, athletics, tennis or golf, our girls are performing brilliantly. It is a joy to see so many girls in our sports programme enjoying the variety of sport we have at STA and competing at such a high level.

Sporting Conferences

We appreciate that you are often hearing different acronyms - TISAC, BISAC, FOBISIA - that we are involved in but may not know much about them. We hope that the following overview will therefore be useful.

We are currently members of four conferences or organisations:

TISAC: Thailand International Schools Activities Conference

We have been members for many years. This has 16 schools involved which vary in size from small to very large. Currently, we mostly enter Blaze teams in TISAC. There are leagues and tournaments in several sports from U9-U19 and next year, TISAC will also start its own multi-sport Games for Primary children.

BISAC: Bangkok International Schools Athletic Conference

This is our first year in BISAC. The 12-school membership includes the largest international schools in Bangkok in leagues and tournaments across many sports, from U9-U19, split into four seasons through the year. BISAC schools also run invitational tournaments.

FOBISIA: Federation of British International Schools in Asia

This has three major multi-sport Games per year (Primary, U13 and U15) that take place in Phuket against other schools across Asia. There are also single-sport events in Tennis, Golf, Swimming and more, which take place across Asia and provide some amazing travel opportunities.

NAE: Nord Anglia Education

We are part of the South East Asia division and meet for a U11 multi-sport Games once a year. Our schools take it in turn to host the NAE Games.

In addition, we are part of the wider circuit regionally which means we are invited to a whole range of other events across Thailand.

Currently we are able to offer STA students opportunities through these conferences in Football, Basketball, Swimming, Tennis, Badminton, Golf, Teeball, Track and Field, Triathlon, Cross Country.

If you have any questions about these conferences, please don’t hesitate to contact Mr. Damon (
