Physical Education is a popular and well-established subject at St Andrews and we are looking for an experienced and inspiring teacher to join the team. Class sizes are small and the students are motivated and enthusiastic, enjoying a lively approach to the subject through a wide range of teaching and learning techniques. The ideal candidate will convey enthusiasm for the subject and contribute collaboratively in the continued development of the curriculum, and of extra-curricular sport, from Year 7 to Year 13. Positions of responsibility within the Department may be available to an appropriately qualified candidate.
Physical Education is studied by all students throughout the school and follows schemes of work based on the English National Curriculum, but adapted to reflect both our location and climate in Thailand. In Years 10 and 11 we offer GCSE PE and in Years 12 and 13 we offer Sports, Exercise and Health Science as part of the IB Diploma Programme. Previous experience teaching these courses and/or expertise in Basketball and/or Swimming would be an advantage.
The Physical Education Department is at an exciting stage in our development with some excellent sports facilities at our new High School, which opened in August 2017, allowing for widespread extra-curricular opportunities and a busy schedule of training and fixtures which take place both after school and at weekends. All Physical Education staff are actively involved in this.
At St Andrews, we pride ourselves on being an inclusive school, and have an excellent reputation for supporting children with special educational needs. Experience of teaching children with dyslexia, mild autism, ADHD etc. would be very good prior experience for a teacher wishing to join our team. Our Mission Statement commits us to meeting ‘all the needs of the individual learner’, and this applies equally to those students targeting the very highest grades at both IGCSE and IB.
All classrooms have data projectors and access to the internet, and there is a strong commitment to integrating the teaching and use of ICT skills into all areas of the curriculum, where appropriate, with laptop carts, iPads and ICT labs bookable when required. As well as their teaching, all teachers are also expected to contribute positively to both the school’s pastoral systems and the extra-curricular programme, offering an Extra-Curricular Activity that either supports or extends the students’ learning in their subject area, or from another area of personal interest.
