Health and Wellbeing - Fitness fun for Key Stage 1

28 February 2019

Many of us will have set ourselves the challenge of accomplishing personal goals to improve our general health and wellbeing by changing some of our less desirable traits and habits.

Even for those who have not, here at BISB we are committed to supporting our students and school community to improve their general health and wellbeing.  Getting active is one way to do this and there is currently a wide range of native English opportunities to do so, both within our school and across the city.

This weekly feature serves to showcase what is currently on offer to help improve and sustain your activity levels as well as offer some tips and advice on how to adopt healthier lifestyle choices for you and your family.

Issue 7 – Fitness fun for Key Stage 1

This club focuses on improving and developing stamina, co-ordination, flexibility, balance and strength in young students. Students participate in a range of different activities each week including traditional circuit training, team and strategy games, and obstacle courses. Each week begins with a warm up and sessions always finish with a short game.

What to Expect

  • In the circuit training sessions, activities include throwing at targets, shuttle runs, jumping hurdles, step ups, balances, bouncing/throwing ball stations. There is a balance of activities in the circuit focusing on physical and developmental areas.
  • We have themed sessions at different times of the year, for example Halloween and Christmas.
  • Sessions focus on fun but with a keen sense of discipline and independence for our younger students to manage their rotation between activities, while supported by staff.
  • Sweaty, happy children!

Who can get involved?

Anyone in Key Stage 1 can get involved, but places are limited due to the space we work in and the nature of the activity. Whilst the club is currently full, students wishing to join can add their name to the waiting list. Alternatively look out for this CCA activity in Term 3!

Where and when does it take place?
