The NBPS Theatre Department enjoys and exceptional start to the school year with an insightful Upper School Theatre Department Panel Discussion and workshops with Juilliard Alumni Brittany Viccars.
Panel Discussion
On Thursday, August 16th, North Broward Preparatory School held an inspireing Theatre Department Panel Discussion at Lakeside Lecture Hall. This event was moderated by the Head of School, Elise Ecoff. The panel, consisting of Brittany Viccars, a Juilliard graduate, Stephanie Langnas, NBPS alumnus and AMDA graduate, Kelsey Malanowski, NBPS alumnus and a senior at NYU Tisch School of Drama, and Brett Scott, NBPS High School Theatre teacher discussed topics intended to foster a healthy lifelong engagement in theatre arts. The topics discussed were process vs. product, preparing for college and beyond, the audition process and the nature of competition in the arts.
Though the panel of guest artists had different experiences in theatre education, all believed in the same philosophy: students who participate in theatre in high school, college or professionally are more creative, confident and productive individuals. They learn to trust their own instincts, ideas and abilities giving them skills in theatre and public speaking which are utilized in most other professions.
We received wonderful feedback from parents and students who were happy to be more informed about the college application and audition process. They also felt it was a wonderful way for this generation of young artists to be more connected with what is currently happening in the theatre arts. This is the first of many panel discussions in the fine arts department.
Master Classes
In addition, during the week, Brittany Viccars also held master classes for 8th through 12th grade theatre students on a variety of different acting styles and auditioning techniques.
