Cecilia joins North Broward Preparatory School’s College Advising Department as an experienced college and career counselor, having previously served as an upper school college counselor and co-director, as well as an Assistant Director of Graduate Student Programs at the University of Miami’s Toppel Career Center. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology and English literature from the University of Miami, as well as a Master of Science in Mental Health Counseling and a Master of Science in Higher Education Administration, both from UM. She is currently pursuing a doctoral degree in Higher Education Leadership at Nova Southeastern University and is in the final stages of completing her dissertation.
She is an active member of various college admissions and college counseling professional organizations and is entering her second year serving on Bentley University’s Counselor Advisory Board, specifically within the undergraduate initiatives subcommittee that focuses on promoting opportunities for access to higher education among students of diverse backgrounds. Recently, she was appointed to serve a one-year term on NACAC’s Inclusion, Access, and Success Committee, which works to advance the association’s commitment to inclusion for underserved students and the educational professionals who guide them.
Cecilia greatly enjoys remaining informed about changing trends in higher education as a way to educate students and their families about the many options that are available. She views college counseling from a holistic perspective and stresses the importance of finding an appropriate match. For her, this involves engaging students in conversations about what they are looking for in their college experiences on a level that goes beyond academics so that students have the best opportunities for personal growth and reflection as they enter young adulthood.
Cecilia enjoys spending time with her two young children, Cameron and Aiden, who will be starting at North Broward Prep in the fall. She enjoys practicing yoga, watercolor painting, and cheering on her boys during their year-round athletic activities. She is excited to join the NBPS team and looks forward to a successful year!
