Following my Natural Sciences degree and then PGCE at The University of Bath, I secured my first teaching position within the city at a successful child-centred primary school. I taught there for 10 years and was fortunate to have the opportunity to become Deputy Head and Acting Head whilst acquiring my qualification for Headship, NPQH. It was also during my years in Bath that I developed an interest in international education by leading Comenius projects linking with other schools in Europe.
Following the birth of our eldest child, we moved to Cornwall, where I took up my first Headship lasting 8 years at Fowey Primary. Deciding to leave somewhere was never easy, but it was BSG’s reputation for creating a love of learning that provided the momentum for our move to China.
I’m married to Selina, who teaches in Year 1 and we have two boys, Theo in Year 2 and Rory in Year 5. As a family we love exploring the outdoors and have enjoyed the many opportunities this part of Asia provides. On a personal note, I’ve been a Director of Music at various churches and prior to moving to China led a series of collaborative projects between schools. I’m a very keen musician, playing the piano, organ and choral singing, and enjoy the many cultural opportunities here in Guangzhou.
