University Degree: EdD Arts in Leadership
My international school career began in the classroom over 17 years ago. I studied computer science in university and after a few years working in the IT sector in my home country of Canada, I decided to sell everything I owned and try the challenge of living and working overseas. I spent the following winter volunteering in rural Uganda, before accepting a role teaching technology at a secondary school in Shenzhen. I fell in love with education, especially the multi-cultural and multi-lingual environments international schools benefit from, and decided to focus my career on being part of and supporting international education.
After 6 great years in Shenzhen working with students and learning more about the Chinese culture, I moved to Beijing to become an IB MYP & DP coordinator. It was a great role that allowed me to work with closely with the entire school community as we implemented the MYP. Just as we achieved our authorization, the role of Head of Admissions and Marketing opened up and I jumped at it! For me, it’s a perfect opportunity to work with and support everyone involved with the school: students, teachers, families, administration and the city we get to call home. After 10 amazing years in Beijing, and with a new Masters of Leadership under my belt, I very happily moved to Guangzhou in the fall of 2019 to join our amazing BSG and NAISGZ teams!
I value positivity, integrity and community. Like many of us who work overseas, travel is a big part of who I am. I love experiencing new cultures, trying new foods and meeting new people, and I try (almost successfully) to use my holidays to visit places I haven’t seen before. I’m also a big foodie who loves to cook and when I’m not playing around in the kitchen at home, I’m out exploring the city’s food scene from street food to Michelin-starred restaurants. As a proud Canadian, I love being outdoors and you’ll find me every summer on the east coast of Canada in a tent by a lake next to a campfire after a day of kayaking! If you haven’t visited Canada yet, go! You’ll love it.
