University Degree: BA Education
I am a highly motivated teacher who has a passion for helping children succeed in every aspect of their educational journeys. I studied to become a Primary school Teacher with The University of Cumbria, based in Lancaster in the UK, and achieved this with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) as a Geography specialist. Following my studies, I immediately took the plunge into International Education by moving to The British School of Kuwait, where I led many After School Activities including : Sports Clubs, Academic Clubs, and my personal favourite, British Sign Language (BSL) Club.
Camping trips to the desert and an International Expedition to Cyprus were particularly memorable. At this school, I enhanced my teaching skill set by undergoing an online training course into ‘Cued Articulation’ for me to then deliver this to other colleagues, to assist them in their teaching of Phonics, this being a skill of paramount importance when teaching a high volume of children with English as an Additional Language (EAL).
Following two successful years in Kuwait, I moved to China to work at Britannica International School in Shanghai, where I added a Geographical After School Activity to the curriculum, ‘Explorer Club’. I undertook further studies regarding the education of Teaching English in the Mainstream Classroom (TESMC) in additional to a course named ‘Literacy for Learning’ and successfully further refined my skills in classroom teaching. Upon completion of this role, I decided to remain in China, and move to The British School of Guangzhou. The opportunity to work in a school with such a highly regarded reputation internationally, was too much of a good opportunity to pass.
I am a person who has always been interested in a variety of sports including : football, badminton, running, cycling, swimming, squash and in-line skating to name just a few. I enjoy reading novels, especially form the crime-thriller genre. I have always had a passion to travel and indulge myself in cultures both similar to my own and in those that are vastly different, with trips to Australia, Tanzania to climb Mount Kilimanjaro, Sri Lanka and Eastern Europe being my particular favourites.
