Edita Harrison

Year 4 Teacher

I have always been passionate about studying languages so after completing my BA in English and Russian languages, I decided to continue my studies which resulted in obtaining an MA in Linguistics at UCL. Afterwards, my path led to working at a small primary school in London as a TA supporting students with special needs. This was a wonderful experience but I grew more and more desperate to become a class teacher myself so in 2011 I completed a PGCE Primary course with Middlesex University.

Afterwards, I worked for a while as a teacher in inner London schools. After this experience, I moved to Slovakia where I believe I played a significant role in helping develop a starting international school into a well-established and thriving institution.

I believe that being fluent in four languages helps me understand and support students who are non-native English speakers. In addition, having a truly international family, helps me promote the open-mindedness and tolerance that we so need in our global world.

I like to think that I am a very adventurous and resilient person and this is my 3rd move to live in a new country. I have never been to Asia before but I already know that I will enjoy living and working in Guangzhou because of the supportive and warm community that exists at the BSG. I am moving here with my husband Jason, who is also a primary teacher, and two young daughters – Matilda and Olivia. They take up most of my free time but if I find a minute for myself, I like to go for a run, read and experiment in the kitchen.
