Aidan Edmanson

Deputy Head of Secondary

The study of English Language and Literature was always my passion, which led to me selecting this area as the focus of my BA Undergraduate Degree at the University of Essex. I thoroughly enjoyed my course; I particularly enjoyed the literary element, finding many of the set-texts fascinating. After the completion of my degree, I found myself beginning my teaching career in Lincolnshire, before moving to Essex for a number of years and taking on the post of Head of English.

Since then, it has all been a whirlwind of a journey, with my wife and I deciding to make the move to China. This journey was via New York, where we got married on the way, which was an unforgettable experience in itself! Since then, we have managed to travel extensively, especially around Asia. I love travelling and exploring new places. I believe that this enthusiasm stemmed from living in India as a child. I also take pleasure in experiencing new food, which links with my passion for cooking (I always wanted to be a chef as a young child). Furthermore, I like to write fiction, am a keen runner and a self-confessed movie-fanatic!

I am now in my sixth year at the school. After holding the positions of both Head of English, and Assistant Head of Secondary: Curriculum, I am now delighted to start my second year as Deputy Head. It is a position that I relish as I am extremely impassioned regarding the topic of teaching and learning and looking at different ways to further this whilst fostering a certain level of independence in our students and creating ample opportunities for enrichment. I am also extremely passionate about staff development and feel very lucky to be working with such a fantastic team of staff, and students, here at The British School of Guangzhou.
