Mr. S. Calderwood

3F Class Teacher

Mr. Calderwood has been a NET (Native English Teacher) in Hong Kong for the past two years – working at an International Kindergarten for the first year and a local primary school for the second year.

He graduated from Rhodes University, South Africa, with a Bachelor of Science Undergraduate Degree, as well as a Postgraduate Bachelor of Science Honours Degree in Ichthyology. After which he completed his TEFL certificate and moved to Hong Kong to teach English.

I have had an amazing teaching experience in Hong Kong so far, teaching English to a wide range of age groups - from 2 year olds to 15 year olds. I have dealt with a large number of children, who have had different needs in terms of their English ability, and I have done my best to accommodate each and every one of them. I believe children learn best when they are having fun, and I therefore try to make my lessons as fun and interesting for them as possible.

Focusing on the individual child means that pupils can learn invaluable skills that can be applied to any area of their lives. Using this approach to teaching increases their problem solving abilities, and equips them with useful skills that they will use throughout their lives – such as perseverance and becoming more analytical towards the information they are given.

I am very passionate about the ocean – exploring it and its conservation. I also have a keen interest in photography. I enjoy hiking on Lantau Island and in the New Territiories, playing tennis, football and hockey, and catching waves at Big Wave Bay when the weather brings in surfable waves.
