The ELL Level 3 class is designed to help students who are learning the English language but have the ability to read and write extensively. These students have had significant exposure to the English language already and have a strong understanding and the ability to communicate in English. The aim of the course is to continue to improve the development of language skills and to help them become more proficient in the English language. The students will receive two class periods of instruction for the ELL class.
The English class will focus on reading and/or listening to various texts such as: newspaper articles, blogs, short stories, novels, poetry, TED talks, interviews and documentaries. The goal is for the student to be able to show comprehension of the material read and/or heard and to expand their vocabulary, speaking, listening and writing, and critical thinking skills. Students will be expected to read two novels per semester independently with an accompanying activity.
The second class is the ELL Support class. This class will focus primarily on the structure of the language. There will be a strong emphasis on grammar, vocabulary, writing, listening and speaking. Students will use a grammar and academic writing book in this class and continue to have new words introduced to them to expand their vocabulary.
