Preston Y.

Future Violinist

He opens the case and removes his bow and instrument. Class begins and the sound of students tuning their instruments replaces the sound of chatter throughout the room. He places his chin in the chin rest and pulls the bow across the strings of his violin.

Middle school student, Preston Y. has been a student at The Village School for six years. Preston is an incredibly talented young man, but what makes him unique is how self-aware he is at such a young age.

Preston dreams of attending The Juilliard School of Music and in the summer of 2017 had the opportunity to attend the Juilliard Summer Music Program. That experience certainly made a lasting impact, but it wasn’t the most important factor that has influenced Preston’s passion for violin. “Without Mr. Dimitrov, I would not have become the violin player that I am today. He has exposed me to all the great opportunities such as TPSMEA contests, TPSMEA Honor orchestra, auditioning for Houston Youth Symphony and attending Juilliard Summer Music Young Artist Program,” said Preston.

All of these experiences and opportunities have helped Preston develop his skills and passion for the violin. He is eager to learn more and develop his talent as a young musician in hopes of one day becoming a solo violinist. He offered us some words of advice that have helped him along his journey so far, and is relatable for any person pursuing their dreams. “Don’t be shy with expressing your interests and showing your talent. You will never get to have the experiences if no one knew you were interested or have talent for it.”
