Virtual Virtuosos

The Juilliard Programme is still alive in our curriculum – even virtually! From musical challenges to theatre models, check out the clever and creative ways that our students have been fine-tuning their artistic skills! Click the links below to hear about the works in students’ own words.

Music Challenges – Primary

Students in Primary have been challenged to make music out of common equipment in their kitchen – namely, glasses with varying levels of water! Our students rose to the occasion by recreating well-known tunes and even composing their own inventive pieces. Can you recognize these famous songs?

Visual Arts – Primary

Students in Infants have been busy painting up a storm! A watercolor storm, to be precise. These young artists wowed us with their creative use of color. Take a look!

Visual Arts – Secondary

In Grade 6, Students have been doing different drawing exercises and one of them was to create a landscape using cutouts of people from magazines. They have experimented with size, texture, scale and perspective to create human landscapes.

Grade 10 had originally planned an on-campus exhibition to showcase artwork from Grade 10 on the theme of “Art Speaks Out”. The goal was to raise awareness of issues of human impact on the environment, either locally or globally. Our MYP students identified an area of interest, developed an artistic intention and explored different ideas before creating their final artwork using a variety of media. The pieces were made for the Visual Arts ePortfolio and were finished just before the lockdown.

We now invite you to explore the full exhibition virtually.

Performing Arts Set Design Project

After a crash course on scenic design and aesthetics and their importance in all manifestations of performance, Grade 8 students designed their own set for the musical their class is preparing: Cabaret and The Sound of Music.

Students followed guidelines used by professional scenic designers in their preliminary stages of design to create what is called a Model Box to illustrate a particular scene of their choice from their musical. One major challenge of this task was the limited materials students had a their disposal due to the confinement situation.

Click each link to hear the students present their work and explain their artistic decisions.
