EAL Support

As an international school that teaches in English, from time to time some students need support with their English language skills.

All class teachers take responsibility for the development of spoken and written English in their classrooms. Each Primary class teacher has a full time teaching assistant and it is important that 1:2:1 sessions are timetabled weekly to support children in the class needing additional help.

Students will be assessed in reading, writing, speaking and listening against the CEF (Common European Framework) assessment points throughout the year. The assessments aid the teachers in their decision to move a student from beginners to intermediate, to increase integration with mainstream or to make the permanent move to mainstream. When they reach the required level according to the CEF in all four skills, they are deemed ready for full transfer to mainstream learning.
