This July, 12 Village Vikings ventured to Hawai’i for this year’s MIT Reveal Challenge. Their mission? Explore unique scientific sites and learn how photography relates and adds to the scientific world. During this ten-day trip, friendships were formed, discoveries were made, and fun new experiences were shared among all.
On the beautiful Islands of Hawai’i, our students traveled everywhere from beaches with sand as black as night to dormant volcanoes. They partook in many challenging and exciting activities, including beach cleanups, stargazing, dissections, volunteering at festivals, removing invasive plant species, making electrical devices from scratch and even exploring underground lava tubes and underwater reefs! Enjoy some snapshots from the trip below.
During the summer time, vacations, pools, and fun are certainly on children’s minds. However, it’s also important to incorporate learning into their day. Summer learning loss, also known as the "summer slide," refers to the decline in academic and social skills that can occur when children are not engaged in educational activities during the summer months. Dana Sheridan, LPC, Lower School Counselor at The Village School, sheds light on this issue and offers practical solutions for parents to keep their children's minds active during the long summer break.
