The Brown family switched from the Houston Independent School District (HISD) system to The Village School last year. Read more to learn about their experience.

"We decided to make the switch to The Village School because we were looking for an environment that would truly nurture our high-achieving children. We wanted a school that could not only match their academic abilities, but also support their growth with greater individual attention and care. The smaller class sizes at Village allow teachers to really get to know their students—something that made an immediate difference for our family.

While academic excellence was key, we were also impressed by how holistic the Village experience is. From its dynamic classroom environment to a wide range of extracurricular opportunities—like competitive sports, speech and debate, and countless clubs—our children have the freedom to explore their interests at a high level. The school’s international community and global mindset exposes them to different cultures, perspectives and ideas in a natural and enriching way.

When we began thinking about college, the individualized counseling team at Village gave us additional confidence. With five dedicated counselors who take the time to understand each student’s goals, we know our children are in good hands as they look ahead to the future.

We joined mid-year, and were amazed by how seamless the transition was. Thanks to Village’s rolling admissions and welcoming culture, our children were embraced quickly by both students and faculty. A student ambassador we met during our tour said, ‘At Village, there is no majority’—and that spirit of inclusion is something we’ve felt every day since.

To other families considering the switch, be open. Take the tour. The school is accessible, warm, and deeply committed to student success. It’s not just a school—it’s a community, a mindset, and an investment in your child’s future that delivers real returns. The culture isn’t just a promise. It’s a way of life.”
