Pre-Nursery Teacher
BA (hons)
After working as a Nursery Nurse in various settings, I completed my degree with qualified teacher status (QTS) in the UK. I have now been teaching for over 20 years and have taught across all key stages (EYFS, KS1 and KS2). I have completed the Leadership Pathways Programme and have experience of leading in several areas including: school SENCo, Literacy and Reading Leader / Read Write Inc Leader.
BA, PGCE
After I qualified with a degree, I began working in a local school in Cape Town for 2 years. Whilst Cape Town will always be the place I call home, I also loved the idea of travelling and exploring new, interesting and exotic locations and combining this with my passion for teaching; this led me to pursue a career in international education. Initially I moved to Kuwait, teaching at an international British school for 3 years. Whilst in the school I was able to take on a variety of rewarding roles and responsibilities, including become the Year Leader for Year 3 and leading school drama productions. These roles helped build my appreciation for both how children learn inside and out of the classroom as well as give me a greater insight into how to lead a successful team of teachers.
Nursery Teacher
BEd(hons), PGCE
My name is Roslyn McConnell and I am looking forward to starting my new teaching role within our Early Years team. I have over 20 years’ teaching experience and have worked in the UK, Thailand, Qatar and BSG. Having the opportunity to work with our nursery students this year is very exciting, setting-up lots of opportunities to foster a love for exploring, creating and inquisitive learning through active and engaging play. Play is essential for every child’s development, building their confidence as they learn to explore, relate to others, set their own goals, and solve problems. It’s going to be a wonderful year for us all in EY.
I have always had a passion to work with young children. When I finished school I began working in a nursery and while working there I obtained my diploma from Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand, I worked my way up from a student teacher to head supervisor for the under twos. After three years the travel bug set in and I wanted to explore Europe.
Reception Teacher
My journey in teaching began in London where I received a first-class degree in Education Studies, followed by teacher training at the University of Greenwich. After this, I stayed in Greenwich and taught in two wonderful schools. While in London, I was given the opportunity to work closely with the National Centre for the Excellence in the Teaching of Mathematics (NCETM).
