Matthew Cox

Head of Primary

I have worked in Education for over 25 years; as a class teacher, Principal and School Director. I have gained a MA in Education and Leadership, and a PGCE from the University of Warwick. Since I am already working in Guangzhou, and my youngest son has been at BSG for two years, I was familiar with the excellence of the school, and am delighted to contribute to the school’s continued development.

Although I have led both large and small schools in the UK and internationally, at my professional core, I am passionate about teaching. Being afforded the opportunity to directly shape the growth and development of young students is indeed a life-affirming, life-changing experience. I am eternally optimistic, retain a strong sense of fun and humour always, and wish to help children realise their hopes, dreams and ambitions – no matter what form they take.

I perceive myself as an optimistic, energetic husband, father, educator and lover of life. Sport, travel and food all play big roles in my life, as I love all of them deeply. In particular, cricket, football, rugby and most recently squash are undertaken in an attempt to keep fit. Hiking with family and friends is also important to me, as it is both life-affirming, and stress-relieving at the same time. Finally, as a historian, reading serves to transport me through time and space, and feeds the imagination. I look forward to meeting you this year.
