Deputy Head of Secondary
BA (hons), PGCE
I am delighted to be joining BSG in August 2018 as the deputy head of secondary. I graduated from the University of Sheffield with a BA in French and Business Studies, followed by a brief period training as a chartered accountant. I quickly realised that accountancy was not for me, and that my true calling was in teaching, with the opportunity to inspire, shape and develop young minds. I subsequently completed my PGCE in French and German at Manchester Metropolitan University.

Assistant Head of Secondary (Pastoral)
MA, PGCE
Believing that communicating with conviction and precision, as well as developing a love of literature, is integral to personal growth as well as academic success, teaching English has been my passion for the past 20 years. My experience is wide-ranging, from outstanding private and state schools in the United Kingdom to top-performing British schools situated in the deserts of Dubai and Bahrain.
Assistant Head of Secondary
MA
My name is Tom Hart I will be joining BSG this year as Head of Secondary Physical Education. I will be moving to China with my wife Emily from Thailand where we have lived for five years and I was previously Head of Secondary Physical Education. Prior to joining the International teaching community, I spent ten years at a Sports College in London holding a variety of roles ranging from Key Stage 3 Coordinator to Faculty Leader of Physical Education.
Head of English
I began my teaching career ten years ago, via the Teach First programme in Birmingham, where I also completed my Masters in Educational Leadership, conducting action research into Gifted and Talented provision, as the school’s Aim Higher coordinator. I then moved to London, where I was a Leader of Learning, planning and delivering Initial Teacher Training for new teachers in the Croydon Hub. Since then, I’ve spent the last three years in a bright and colourful international setting, teaching in Thailand! Here, I was fortunate to work with wonderful students, developing my pastoral skills, as Head of Year 8 and then Year 9.
Head of Year & Teacher of English
I started teaching nine years ago, after completing a degree in English and Classical Literature at the University of Birmingham. The fascinating array of texts I studied led me to pursue a career in teaching; I wanted to facilitate discussions with young people about literature and what it reveals about the world that we inhabit. I have worked in schools and colleges all over the UK, from: rural Wales, to the Sussex coast, to inner-city London. It has been great to teach students from across the country and learn from them. I always seek to improve as a teacher and I love developing new methods to use in the classroom. This led me to take on a role in charge of CPD at a large sixth form college in London. It was great to work with teachers and consider ways of improving the students’ learning experience.
Head of Secondary Mathematics
BSc, PGCE
I have been living in China for over 16 years now, and it is with great pleasure that I continue to work at BSG as Head of Secondary Mathematics. Our mission for our students is simple: to be able to work out what to do when you don’t know what to do. This is mathematical problem solving at its heart. Rote learning and memorisation, whilst will get you that level 8 at GCSE, it won’t get you a 9. Whilst it will get you an A at A-Level, it won’t get you an A*. It is the core of our beliefs in the Mathematics Department, and serves our students well in their time at BSG, and in the future years to come.
Assistant Head of Mathematics
I read law at university and graduated in 2005. During my degree, I completed a short placement teaching Mathematics and thoroughly enjoyed it. Mathematics is a subject of immense beauty that also rewards effort and perseverance; I feel very privileged to be able to work with students in this subject day in and day out. I qualified as a teacher in 2007 and worked in schools across Manchester and Cumbria in the UK.
Head of Year 8 and Teacher of Mathematics
I graduated with a degree in chemical engineering but my first job after graduating was working in a bank. Whilst still in the banking industry, I had a growing desire to do something that would improve the life chances of young people. In August 2005, I took the ‘leap of faith’ and moved from London to Birmingham to start my teacher training.
