BISB students have once again achieved strong results in the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme and have progressed to prestigious universities worldwide. This year, BISB’s average score for the Full Diploma is 13% higher than the IB global average, representing a significant gap between ourselves and other IB schools around the world.
The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme, commonly referred to as the IBDP, is a two-year education programme for students of ages 16-19. The IB Diploma is recognised and accepted by universities around the world as an appropriate preparation for a degree course. The Full Diploma is awarded to students who score 24 points or more out of a maximum of 45 points. Each student studies six subjects and can achieve up to a maximum of 7 points in each subject. Up to three points are awarded for achievement in the Core, which comprises three elements: (i) Extended Essay; (ii) Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS); and (iii) Theory of Knowledge.
Richard Dyer, Principal of BISB, said:
“Our 2016 Year 13 group of 36 students produced another outstanding year of IB Diploma Programme results. This was our largest ever cohort of students and their average Full Diploma points score was 34 against a world average of 30.1. When one considers that the IBDP is a rigorous preparation for higher education, typically offered to only the best students, this comparison is worth celebrating.”
“20% of our students achieved 38 points and above, with 9% achieving 40 or more. This is the typical level of attainment required to be considered for admission to the world's elite universities, such as Cambridge, Oxford, Harvard and Stanford. BISB students have, over the years, gained entry to Oxford and Cambridge and this year is no exception. I am proud to say that an impressive 100% of our university applicants gained places, with 43% of those at prestigious Russell Group universities.”
“I would like to pay tribute to our teachers for another outstanding year. Their commitment to our students and our school is what drives these exceptional academic results. On behalf of the parents and the school, I would like to applaud our teachers for always challenging and supporting our students to achieve more than they could have thought possible.”
