This week saw students take over at BISB! The focus of the week has been marking World Children’s Day – a day that recognises and celebrates Children’s Rights and promotes youth voice in creating a better world for every child. Our Year 13 student leaders did a fantastic job leading workshops for their younger peers on the Sustainable Development Goals and encouraged them to speak up to use their rights for the empowerment of others.
Thursday’s Wear Blue Day was a show of solidarity in support of Children’s Rights and the work that UNICEF does locally and globally to protect them. The end of the week saw Years 7 and 8 deliver persuasive advocacy speeches on how we could move our work on the SDGs forwards as a school whilst Years 9-13 went head-to-head in heated debates on the same topic. Year 11, meanwhile, have been working on promoting awareness and understanding of Children’s Rights through their Service-learning action week, which included leading workshops for Year 3, launching a ‘For The Children’ anthology to celebrate students creative work, a donation drive of books, clothes, and hygiene products for Huvosvolgy children’s home, and a student-led assembly on peer empowerment. Overall, the week has been a display of student empowerment and a celebration of children’s rights as the cornerstone of education.

On Tuesday evening we welcomed the BBIS Girls' Football team to play in a Festival of Football celebrating the year so far. The whole event was played in a friendly and fun environment where the girls from both teams could show off their talents that they have been working on in training sessions.
RoboCup Junior is an international educational robotics initiative that has been inspiring young students worldwide to engage with STEM subjects through hands-on robotics competitions for over 25 years.
This week in English, Year 8 shared their completed magazines in a collaborative press event. There was a lovely buzz in the classrooms, and we were very impressed with both the quality of the work produced and the professionalism with which they pitched their final products to each other and the Year 12 Muse students who came along as well.
