On 11 December, the Art Department was delighted to welcome Tenzin and her student Choeyang from Snowlands Art School. Snowlands is a small family-style fine art and handicrafts training school that was established by Canadian artist Kristel Ouwehand (Tenzin Dolma) in 2010 in response to a growing need for a centre for young artists to study art in an ethics-based environment.
On 8 and 9 December, the curtains went up on our annual Secondary School production – Elf the Musical! Students, teachers and parents all worked tirelessly for months in preparation. From sourcing props and preparing costumes, to holding long rehearsals perfecting scenes, songs and dance routines. We are thrilled to see so many students performing confidently on stage and discovering new talents and passions.
On 7 December, the Medical Club embarked on an enlightening visit to Jiahui International Hospital to attend a 2-hour Clinical Practice and Simulation Workshop of MSK (Musculoskeletal). This unique opportunity allowed our medical enthusiasts to delve deeper into the intricate world of bone structure, types of bone injuries and their respective treatments, all under the expert guidance of Jiahui Health's junior orthopaedic surgeon, Dr. Zhao Qitong.
The Maths Workshop for Primary parents on 8 December 2023 was a significant effort to strengthen our students' mathematical foundations. The workshop agenda covered essential aspects of the Maths curriculum that we implement in the Primary School, and it provided parents with practical insights and tools for effectively supporting their children with Maths at home.

This term has been incredibly busy for the Computer Science and STEAM department here at BISS Puxi. As one of the Pillars of Nord Anglia Education, STEAM plays a massive part in students developing a range of skills across a range of disciplines. In a dynamic fusion of education and real-world business, our IBDP Year 12 and Year 13 Business Management students recently embarked on an enriching field trip to IKEA. Welcomed by the Baoshan IKEA team, including Sales Manager, Ms Yushu Wang and China Regional Sustainability Partner, Ms Sammie Tsou, our students gained insights into IKEA's sustainability approach with its three pillars: Healthy and Sustainable Living, Circular and Climate-positive, and Fair and Equal.

On Friday afternoon, students in Years 8 and 9 demonstrated their mastery of spelling through taking part in the English Spelling Bee.
Last Friday marked the start of a busy performing season for our Senior Choir. The students delighted a crowd of over 100 invited guests as they performed at the tree-lighting ceremony for the Intercontinental Hotel Shanghai Hongqiao NECC. Our choir was an integral part of the ceremony as they performed both traditional and more modern Christmas songs. Our choir members can be very proud of their performance.
In an exciting encounter at the CISSA Juniors Girls Football tournament, the team from BISS Puxi faced off against Dulwich Puxi. The match ended in a thrilling tie, with both teams managing to score two goals each.
A few hours after the Christmas Fair at BISS Puxi, a very special guest arrived on the school premises. The one and only Sinterklaas, who visits Dutch and Belgian families every year in December, paid the Shanghai Dutch School his annual visit on Saturday. He was welcomed by excited students and parents as he arrived at the Primary Gate.
On Saturday 25 November, seventeen boys and ten girls set off at 07:45 to Suzhou Singapore International School to participate in a primary football festival...and they did not disappoint.
We recently received the very exciting news that three of our students have won special awards for their exceptional performances in last summer's Pearson Edexcel IGCSE examinations — ahead of 70,000 students globally. The Pearson Outstanding Learner Awards recognise students who have achieved the highest marks in subjects in their country or across the whole world.
On Monday 20 November, The British International School Shanghai, Puxi celebrated World Children's Day. This UNICEF initiative holds special significance, as we at BISS Puxi strive to create an inclusive environment in which every child feels valued and empowered. The Sustainable Development Goals focused on this year – that of ‘Goal 4: Quality Education’ and ‘Goal 10: Reduced Inequalities’ – also resonate deeply with our commitment to promoting academic excellence and creating a community where diversity is celebrated.

On Saturday 25 November, The British International School Shanghai, Puxi, in collaboration with Evergreen Homeland, successfully hosted the highly anticipated annual 5K Fun Run. Against the backdrop of the upcoming Shanghai Marathon, which was set to commence the following day, our shared commitment to promoting physical health and fostering a sense of community was the key factor in organising the Fun Run.
