How do we show-off what we have learnt?

What students produce tell us just how much they have learnt. Fortunately, there are more ways than simply answering questions or writing sentences for them to show this off.

Year 2 students have been working together to determine the most popular mode of transport for coming to school in our class. They interviewed each other, recorded their results, and shared it with their partners. To further improve their English, they often take over the role of teacher and lead the class in the activities, be it colouring the different parts of a face based on a listening comprehension text or taking the answers from the class and writing it on the board.

Year 3 have been practising the different ways to construct questions and how they can be used to acquire more information about their classmates. They made a wheel and used it to decide what kinds of questions they were going to ask. They first thought of the questions they wanted to ask and wrote them down before interviewing their classmates, thus allowing them to ask their questions without having to further think about it, and instead spend their brain power formulating their answers.

Year 4 students decided they wanted to find out more information about predators and preys and went on the iPads to do some research. They created mini fact-files about their chosen animals and found some interesting ways animals protect themselves, be it by camouflaging in the desert or coating themselves in poisonous chemicals.

Just what are they going to do next?!
