Reflections on 2018 BRITMUN Conference

In December 2018, BSB Shunyi hosted our annual BRITMUN Conference.   150 students from 7 international schools participated in the conference including students from The British School of Beijing (BSB) Shunyi, Beijing World Youth Academy, Beijing International Bilingual Academy, Canadian International School of Beijing, International School of Beijing, Keystone Academy and Western Academy of Beijing.

Please see testimonials from 2 BSB students below.

Last December, The British School of Beijing (BSB) Shunyi once again hosted our annual BRITMUN conference. Ever since our first conference three years ago, I am proud to say, I have been involved in the executive team of this conference.

Since our first conference, our aims have not changed. We are a student run MUN conference aimed to teach younger delegates and give them a chance to explore and gain experience in an actual MUN conference. We worked tirelessly for about six months to plan and execute this conference.

Throughout the conference, everyone who attended the conference managed to speak at least once in front of their respective committees, a big achievement for many students.

Schools from all over Beijing came to attend and speak at our conference. The theme this year was "One Shared Humanity". One thing that always strikes me at MUN is to see how younger students manage to speak so professionally about the topics that impact our world today. It really does give you confidence that our future lies in safe hands.

On the whole, this conference was a learning curve for everyone involved, and I believe it is appropriate to consider BRITMUN 2018, yet another thriving success, thanks to not only our students and staff who helped pull off the event, but also to all of the students from Beijing schools who came to speak and make themselves heard at BRITMUN.

BRITMUN 2018 marked the end to a transitionary period for the conference. This was our first conference without our previous director Ms. MacIver and with an entirely new executive team.

Despite the various challenges we faced, BRITMUN 2018 has been a resounding success. The quality of debate within committees was simply spectacular and certainly left me pleasantly surprised.

I am glad to have been involved in the planning and execution of BRITMUN 2018 as the Deputy Secretary-General and look forward to making BRITMUN 2019 even better.
