Our advanced Music classes in KS4 and KS5 have been working hard on the course requirements since day one. We offer Edexcel GCSE Music and IB Music which are both very difficult courses. The students must do well in three very different categories of musical expertise: performance on an instrument, musical composition, and listening and appraising. For this third component, they must have thorough knowledge of music theory and music history and be able to read complex musical scores.
Our Y10 class is just beginning their GCSE Music journey by looking at Bach and Beethoven while our Y11 class is finishing up the last topic of fusion pieces in time for the mock exams in January. Y11 students will be submitting their compositions and recording their performances in Term 2. Our Y12 IB class has done great work with performance already in KS4 and are further developing their technique for their IB performance requirements.
We would also like to congratulate our GCSE Music students on a very impressive set of results this year in their May 2019 examinations:
Well done! We are looking forward to seeing these talented students in action in IB Music this year.
