“Reading should not be presented to children as a chore or duty. It should be offered to them as a precious gift.” — Kate DiCamillo (Author)

Our aim is that all children develop a love of reading by finding the genre that they enjoy. Ensuring easy access to a variety of fiction and non-fiction books at appropriate levels of challenge enables students to try different themes and develop their own reading choices. As Barack Obama said – Reading is important. If you know how to read, then the whole world opens up to you.

Junior Librarians

We are very excited to introduce our new Junior Librarians who, along with Mrs Mireku (our Primary Librarian), will raise the profile of the library and encourage the love of reading in all our pupils.

Last term, we added hundreds of new books to the library and these are available for our Primary students to borrow. There are also recommended new books and great book displays, to further encourage reading and appropriate borrowing when children visit the library for their weekly library lesson.

Library Lunchtime Club

All Primary students have access to the library once a week as part of our Library Lunchtime Club. This is run by our fabulous Junior Librarians and children can pop in to read quietly on their own, read with a Junior librarian or share a book with a friend. The Library Lunchtime Club will foster an enjoyment of being in the library and reading different books.

In addition, we will shortly be launching our first Library competition linked to Chinese New Year and developing additional activities for the Library Lunch time club.

We will continue to develop our Library and the opportunities for students to develop their reading skills and share their thoughts and ideas about the multitude of different books available.
