Irina Kayhodges - Irina-Kayhodges

BA, MA

Irina has a Bachelor of Art Education and a Masters in Teacher Training for Secondary Schools in Visual Arts & Art Education, both from the Omsk State Pedagogical University, Russia.

From her earliest childhood years, she has always been fascinated by artistic processes. Her love and passion for the arts resulted in her formal study which commenced when Irina was eleven years old following her acceptance into a specialist art school. Following her formal education, she worked extensively in industry including fashion and fashion publishing. Her projects have been featured in Vogue as well as at the Moscow Fashion week. She has also created a clothing collection, under her own label, transferring splashes of watercolour into silk fabrics. Inspired by the clothing project, she published drawing and illustration tutorials in English and Chinese.

Learning always remained at the core of her work. Therefore, Irina continued her academic pursuits by completing a Master of Arts in Education with a specialism in Fine Arts. Additionally, she went on to develop my technique at Parsons College of Arts in Paris where she focused on experimental processes in contemporary art forms.

Originally from Siberia in Russia, she has lived in many different countries and fully embrace the principles of interculturalism and international mindedness. She lived in the heart of Europe, in the capital of Czech Republic for a decade, where she started to share her broad experience through teaching fashion, visual arts and design in international school. It is her third year in China and she is excited to live in its historical capital. She is honoured to join the British School of Beijing in 2022.

In her spare time, Irina enjoys jogging, reading American and Russian classics and cooking. Her specialty is pancakes. She loves exploring China and its traditions with her three year old son Theo. As a parent she is thankful that her child is exposed to different cultures. As a teacher she believes in the power of art as an essential tool for every child's self-expression and wellness, the development of empathy and multicultural consciousness.
