Year 2: Great Fun from Exploring Traditional Tales

In Year 2, our Traditional Tales unit is coming to a close, and what a wonderful journey it has been! The children have had great fun exploring the world of traditional tales, with a special focus on our core text, The Three Billy Goats Gruff.

Using inspiration from Talk for Writing, the children created story maps and actions to help internalise the text. We then built on this foundation by weaving in important grammatical features, developing the children’s confidence in applying these to their own writing.

In the final stages of the unit, the children used their senses to innovate new settings, painting vivid pictures for their readers. They also designed their very own good and evil characters, which came together to form exciting new stories inspired by the classics!

It has been a fantastic way to bring storytelling to life and inspire a love of reading and writing across the year group.
