BSG Guangzhou Scholarships 2025/26
BSG was delighted to welcome back Juilliard Music Curriculum Specialist, Ms Andrea Lee, who played a key role in launching the Juilliard-Nord Anglia Performing Arts Programme in 2015. During the recent visit, Andrea engaged with the talented Music Team through observations, one-on-one debriefs, and whole-team professional development sessions.
As part of the visit, the Juilliard Music Curriculum Specialist also taught two classes, leading students in dynamic jazz explorations. In Year 9, students explored improvisational strategies, culminating in a whole-class “jam” where each student performed a solo over a 12-bar blues. This experience provided a strong foundation for analysing solo performances in Thelonious Monk’s piece, Blue Monk. Meanwhile, Year 5 students delved into improvisation by learning blues articulations and short melodic gestures on xylophones, using these elements to craft their own musical stories. Their learning was further enriched by listening to jazz trumpeter Bubber Miley’s expressive storytelling through music.
BSG greatly appreciated Andrea’s insights and contributions during the visit and looks forward to future collaborations.
