As part of our Science topic on microorganisms we enjoyed a visit from a year 6 Parent. Mrs Wendt, who works for Proctor & Gamble, visited us on Friday 19th of November. She used U.V. light to show the students the presence of microorganisms that grow on our hands. She went on to show the effects of thorough washing with a) water only and b) soap and water. The students were amazed to see the results.
Mrs Wendt showed us a device that can count bacteria on swabs. Students found that door handles and keyboards were among the places with most bacteria. They then observed the bacteria under the microscopes and observed the microorganisms close up. We all enjoyed Mrs Wendt’s visit very much and the session ended with a big round of applause.
We also enjoyed a visit from Grace Jager who as well as being a parent was also a journalist. She spoke to the students about the high pressure work of journalists with all the demands and deadlines that are part of daily working life. She spoke about the key skills that are needed to be a successful journalist. This helped the students to further reflect on what they had learned in their English topic.
The Year 6 Students have been very busy practising and perfecting their Dramatic Production based on the life of William Shakespeare. The play is called ‘Shakespeare Rocks’. The play features a wealth of song, dance and of course fabulous acting.
The performances will take place on Friday 24th October at 2pm and 6pm. As well as learning about “the Great Bard”, the Students had great fun throughout rehearsal and performance and loved wearing the colourful costumes. Have a look for yourself at the Rehearsla photos above !
